The City of Raleigh ranks No. 5 among major metro areas in the U.S. in a new report ranking which cities are best for careers and where people might relocate in order to advance their careers, citing lower crime, housing availability, quality of life, cost of living, career prospects and much more.

Raleigh and the Triangle often ranking highly on “best of” reports such as places to work, to build a career, to retire, and for quality of life as well as cost of living. A reporter from WalletHub earlier this week, however, said Raleigh lags as a place where women own businesses.
The Capital City also scores well as a technology hub. Raleigh has a presence of high-tech firms like Red Hat in downtown to IBM, Cisco and scores of others in Research Triangle Park. Raleigh also has many financial and insurance services add to the region’s appeal.
The Research Triangle region is named named after the three research institutions in the area: Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University. Even if you never use Section 1031 of the Tax Code, it can impact you — in a positive way. The 1031 Like-Kind Exchange is a tax deferral that helps individuals save for retirement and businesses reinvest and grow, creating jobs and economic expansion for all of us —which in turn creates additional tax revenue.
What, exactly, is the 1031 Like-Kind Exchange? Section 1031 of the U.S. Tax Code lets those who reinvest proceeds from the sale of a non-homestead properties in similar (‘like-kind’) properties defer paying tax on the profit. This holiday weekend I went to see the new movie Joy with Jennifer Lawrence. Jennifer Lawrence as you know is the star of the Hunger Games. Drilling down to the very basics of the series, The Hunger Games was about a young girl with no voice that became the voice of an uprising. She became a leader. The series resonated with young girls and women in general because we were able to watch Katniss go from a shy girl, to a young woman that weathered ups and downs, made choices while on her way to becoming a leader of an uprising that changed a nation.
Joy was about a young girl that had dreams of what she could be and a strong grandmother that spoke to her and told her all her dreams were reality. Her grandmother told her countless times that she was a strong young girl and would be a successful woman. Joy then lost her voice. She lost her vision, her dream, and her direction when she was told by a father she would not amount to anything. Joy eventually found her voice and found her success. Joy was about strength and resilience. It was about looking within and knowing that what you may be told about yourself is not true. It was about finding resilience and a voice, it was about becoming a strong leader.
I relate this to this as a professional women working in a male-dominated profession. I think woman need to find their inner voice and fierceness. Do not be passive, set a goal and know that you can do it. Know your business inside and out and do not be afraid to fail. Failure leads to continued learning. Bouncing back after disappointments is paramount to growth.

North Carolina is one of the top states in the U.S. that are thriving thanks to strong workforces, low business costs and pro-business regulatory environments, according to Forbes.
North Carolina ranks number 2 on Forbes’ just-released “Best States for Business and Careers” rankings. Last year, North Carolina was ranked 3rd.
According to the business magazine, NC is the only one to appear in the top five every year of their best states study.
Forbes wrote that NC boasts a strong labor force and business-friendly incentive, legal and regulatory environments. Labor costs are 10 percent below the national average and fifth lowest in the U.S., according to Moody’s Analytics.
“North Carolina attracted more new facilities and expansions in 2014 than any other state, according to Site Selection magazine. The influx has continued in 2015 with multiple major expansions. Novo Nordisk announced plans in August to invest more than $1 billion for a bio-manufacturing facility and more than double its workforce in North Carolina with an additional 700 jobs. A month earlier software firm Interactive Intelligence detailed plans to create 200 new jobs in Durham. Both companies cited the benefits of the Research Triangle Park area with its wealth of technical talent and strong universities.”

In response to a large number of requests for additional information with regard to Z-27-14 [the city-wide rezoning initiative, also known as Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) Remapping], the City of Raleigh is undertaking further outreach to its citizens. The City of Raleigh is in the process of rezoning approximately 30% of the City. This rezoning will update the official zoning map to reflect the new zoning districts adopted in the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The UDO is a complete rewrite of the existing zoning code, which governs land use. The interactive map below allows users to view existing and proposed zoning districts.
The Planning Commission finished its review of zoning case Z-27-14 – UDO Zoning Remapping on April 14. The City Council received the Planning Commission’s recommendation at Council’s April 21 meeting. On May 19, City Council voted to finalize the Proposed Zoning Map for Public Hearing. The finalized map is shown in the “Proposed Rezoning Map for Public Hearing” section below. See the section titled “Roadmap to Adoption” for full details on the review and adoption process.

The public hearing will be widely advertised. Additionally, there will be legal notices published in the newspaper, and public hearing signs will be posted throughout the areas where the rezoning will take place.
